Event Description

UPCEA and UW-Madison are partnering to host the 2023 Distance Teaching and Learning (DT&L) Conference. UPCEA is co-locating the Summit for Online Leadership and Administration + Roundtable (SOLA+R) with DT&L to create a comprehensive, holistic, and unique opportunity for the online community to learn and network together, in one location—Madison, WI.  (Registration for the Online Leadership Roundtable will be separate.)

This comprehensive experience brings together all the elements of the online enterprise in a holistic way—from teaching and learning to leadership and administration—preserving the salient issues for these two distinct professional communities, while catalyzing dialogue across all facets of the larger field.

Since 1985, UW-Madison’s DT&L Conference has provided a transformative professional development experience for individuals working in the field of distance, hybrid and online education – from faculty and instructors to instructional designers and administrators. This event perfectly complements UPCEA’s more than 100 years of advocating for the Wisconsin Idea, namely, that the benefits of the university should extend beyond the walls of campus to the communities they serve. A century later, the powerful vision that fueled the extension movement has found its purest form in online and professional continuing education. And that is what drives UPCEA today.

Over the past decade, UPCEA’s Summit for Online Leadership and Administration + Roundtable, or SOLA+R, has grown into the leading event and professional home for chief online learning officers and their staff. DT&L’s focus on online teaching and learning was the ideal complement for SOLA+R. Co-locating both events will expand the community of professionals in the field, creating an even more valuable conference experience for all. The program will focus on addressing the rapidly changing online learning landscape with the most current topics, technologies, and innovations that inform best practices, strategies, and online leadership.

Those of you who have attended past DT&L and SOLA+R conferences already know these events provide the opportunity to discover relevant research, innovative tools, and cutting-edge thinking and perspectives. And, of course, there’s the chance to network and brainstorm with colleagues who share your focus, passion, and challenges for creating high-quality online and distance education

Affiliated Events Policy
The association has gone to great lengths and expense to negotiate and contract for a reduced room rate at conference hotels. That rate is based upon the projected attendance at the meeting. If corporate member and nonmember attendees elect to stay at other hotels, it subjects the association to attrition penalties that can cause significant financial loss to the association. We count on our corporate community to support the association, and one of the ways to do that is to honor our efforts to secure a sufficiently large room block at a reduced rate at a first class hotel/conference venue.

For these reasons, corporate member and nonmember attendees are prohibited from holding any meetings (briefings, seminars, etc.) within a 25-mile radius, targeting professional, continuing, and online leaders in higher education during the scheduled hours of UPCEA events unless otherwise negotiated and scheduled with and by UPCEA. Any such meeting occurring within 36 hours before or after the UPCEA conference must be coordinated with UPCEA and, space permitting, be held at the conference hotel.  This policy helps ensure that the association’s contracted obligations to the hotel for guest rooms and food and beverage minimums are met, which is essential for the financial health of the association and its members. If UPCEA cannot find space for the corporate member or nonmember attendee’s event at the contracted hotel, we will work to help find alternative space.  In no circumstances, however, is it permissible for a corporate member or nonmember attendee to contract a separate hotel block, either at the conference hotel or elsewhere.

UPCEA reserves the right to prohibit corporate member and nonmember attendees who violate this policy from exhibiting or participating at UPCEA events.

If you encounter any errors or need assistance with your registration, please contact us at 202-659-3130 or jromero@upcea.edu.
